Smithfield Couple Injured In Head-On Collision

Smithfield fire and EMS workers remove Edith and Justin Stanley from their Oldsmobile after it was struck by a pickup truck Friday afternoon on US70 East at Mallard Road.

Two Smithfield residents were injured in a head-on collision Friday afternoon on Highway 70 at Mallard Road , just east of I-95. Smithfield Police said a Ford truck, driven by Sabina Mondragan, 32, of Honeycutt Road, Willow Springs, was traveling west on US70 and attempted to turn on Mallard Road, but instead collided head-on with an eastbound Oldsmobile, driven by 54-year-old Edith Taylor Stanley of Stevens Chapel Road, Smithfield. Stanley, and a passenger, 24-year-old Justin Stanley, were transported by Smithfield EMS to Johnston Memorial Hospital . Officer I.L. Wilson cited Mondragan with a safe movement violation.
